The Role
The department is seeking up to two experienced Senior Workplace Relations Advisors at the APS6 and EL1 levels to provide specialist advice on HR and employment matters, including the interpretation and application of the department’s Enterprise Agreement, HR policies, delegations, workplace arrangements and associated guidelines.

At the EL1 level, you will work under broad direction to provide leadership across the team, manage more complex industrial and workplace relations matters, and contribute to strategic priorities including Enterprise Agreement processes and workforce governance.

Some of your duties may include
  • Provide advice on HR services, employment conditions, workplace relations matters and Enterprise Agreement interpretation.
  • Support or lead the development of workplace relations policies, processes and guidance materials.
  • Manage or contribute to IFA and VR processes, including reviewing and preparing briefings.
  • Support or oversee section reporting, records management processes, archiving and ongoing maintenance.
  • Provide advice on the Overseas Conditions of Service Manual.
  • Contribute to the next Enterprise Agreement process.
  • Support reviews, projects and process improvements to strengthen HR governance and operational integrity.
  • At the EL1 level, lead and manage a small team delivering specialist workplace relations and HR services.
To be considered for these roles, you will bring
  • Demonstrated experience in workplace relations, HR advisory, employment policy or a related HR function.
  • Strong ability to interpret Enterprise Agreements, policies, procedures and employment frameworks.
  • Experience preparing briefings, written advice, reporting and governance documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to respond to complex or sensitive enquiries.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to provide practical, accurate and timely advice.
  • Strong organisational skills, including records management, reporting and process improvement.
  • Experience with IFAs, VR processes, consultative committees or APS workplace relations matters will be highly regarded.
  • APS experience, or experience working in a similarly complex employment environment, will be highly regarded.
