The Department:
Medium-sized federal government department, located on the southside of Canberra.

The Role:
We are looking for EL1 candidates with a strong track record in government accounting. This specialised program area has a finance team that operates independently of the CFO unit, managing a multi-billion-dollar budget. The core duties of the role include:

• EOM and EOFY reporting
• Variance analysis and monthly management reporting packs
• WIP and other regular reporting and analysis on project financials
• Budget management advice and scenario planning
• NPP costing and support

The role has multiple stakeholders which will see you quickly develop an internal brand within the business area. You’ll have the opportunity to set the standard with these stakeholders, helping them manage their finances effectively and add value to their program.

The role is available via an S26 permanent transfer. They are looking for someone who can engage at a senior level with clients, and have the technical ability to confidently collate, analyse and deliver financial advice. The area is fast moving and has developed a supportive culture and environment.

You’ll report to a good EL2, who is keen to meet with candidates that have experience across government accounting. They are willing to train you in any area where your skill set doesn’t match (i.e. – no NPP costing experience) and more interested in your holistic skillset. There is also the potential to act at the EL2 level in this role. You’ll also have 3 direct reports to manage.

Your Skills and Experience:
You are an experienced professional with federal government accounting experience at the EL1 level or equivalent. You must currently be a permanent member of the APS at the EL1, as this role is only available for a permanent s26 transfer. Stakeholder engagement is one of your strengths and something that you thrive on. You’re comfortable and familiar with developing and delivering SOPs and policies.

You must be an Australian Citizen with a Baseline clearance to be able to start in this role.
