APS6 Senior Communications Officer

Contract or Temp

Two contracts available supporting sector engagement, digital content, user support and strat communications. Open to various locations, start 1 July!

  • Hourly rate contracts - not suited to s26
The Role
Working under limited supervision, you will support the planning and delivery of communication activities, with a focus on content development, stakeholder engagement, sector updates and resolving more complex audience or user enquiries.

These roles will commence 1 July 2026 and run through to 26 February 2027. The positions may be based in Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart or Melbourne, with flexible working arrangements available.

Duties
  • Responding to complex Tier 2 user or audience enquiries across email and digital channels
  • Undertaking research and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to resolve enquiries
  • Developing and updating support resources, including knowledge articles, SOPs, FAQs, user guidance material and email response templates
  • Working with policy teams and external stakeholders to develop and implement communication strategies
  • Preparing communication plans and publishing content across appropriate digital channels
Skills and experience
  • Strategic communication experience within a government context
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce clear, accurate and audience-appropriate content
  • Experience developing support content such as FAQs, user guides, knowledge articles or standard messaging
  • Confidence engaging with internal policy teams and external stakeholders
  • The ability to manage complex enquiries and use research, judgement and consultation to resolve issues
  • A communications degree or similar qualification, or approximately five years’ professional experience in communications
Eligibility
Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold a current Baseline security clearance.
