APS4 Payroll and People Advisor

Permanent / Full Time

Support payroll, pay checking, inbox management and HR administration in a busy, supportive APS People team. Location flexible - ACT, VIC, QLD or NSW

  • Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane location
  • Government experience desirable, not essential
  • Immediate start for a 6 month term
The Role
We are seeking an APS4 People Advisor to support payroll, pay and conditions, HR administration and team inbox management within a small Commonwealth People team.

This role can be offered as a labour-hire contract, non-ongoing engagement or temporary transfer s26. Locations include Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. Flexible working arrangements are supported, including working from home, with an expectation to attend the office 2–3 days per week.

This is a full-time opportunity, however part-time arrangements may be considered.

This role would suit someone with strong administration, HR, payroll or pay and conditions experience who enjoys detail, customer service and supporting a busy team with operational HR work.

Duties
  • managing and triaging a shared People team inbox
  • responding to low to medium complexity pay, conditions and entitlements queries
  • escalating more complex matters to senior colleagues
  • completing fortnightly pay checking activities and identifying discrepancies
  • liaising with an external payroll provider to resolve pay queries
  • supporting offboarding processes, documentation and final pay requirements
  • maintaining HR and payroll registers and records
  • updating SOPs, templates and internal guidance material
  • supporting broader People team priorities during busy periods
Skills and experience

  • experience supporting payroll, HR administration or pay and conditions functions
  • strong attention to detail and the ability to identify errors or discrepancies
  • confidence managing a high-volume shared inbox and prioritising competing requests
  • sound judgement and the ability to escalate matters appropriately
  • strong customer service and stakeholder communication skills
  • ability to handle sensitive employee information with discretion
  • experience maintaining records, registers, SOPs or process documentation
  • APS, government or external payroll provider experience will be highly regarded.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this position, you must be an Australian citizen and hold, or be able to obtain, a Baseline security clearance.
