Policy Officer
As a Policy Officer, you will research, develop, implement and evaluate policy and strategic initiatives.
- Initial 12 month non-ongoing contract with possible extension
- $80,000 - $90,000 + 12% superannuation + NFP salary sacrificing

As a Policy Officer, you will work closely with the National Policy Manager to develop, implement and evaluate policy, research and strategic initiatives that influence national policy and advance the interests of people affected by viral hepatitis. You will contribute to shaping the policy environment in which Hepatitis Australia operates, supporting evidence-based advocacy and national reform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide evidence-informed policy advice and undertake policy research to support Hepatitis Australia's advocacy and Australia's goal of eliminating hepatitis B and hepatitis C as public health threats by 2030.
- Research, analyse and interpret emerging policy issues, legislation and evidence to inform strategic decision-making and advocacy.
- Develop high-quality policy papers, submissions, briefs, position statements and other strategic communications.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with members, government, researchers and key stakeholders to inform policy development and collaborative decision-making.
- Support the delivery of policy projects and initiatives, working collaboratively across the organisation to achieve strategic objectives.
- Represent Hepatitis Australia in external meetings, committees and stakeholder forums.
- Ensure policy activities and communications align with governance, quality standards and organisational priorities while contributing to consistent, evidence-based messaging across the organisation.
About You
We are seeking a candidate with:
- Demonstrated understanding of the social, political and policy environment in which national peak bodies operate.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team, managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
- Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement and adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, consultation and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse groups.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing high-quality policy papers, submissions, briefs and other strategic documents.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, collaboration and contributing positively to a high-performing team in hybrid and remote working environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and other digital collaboration and communication tools.
