This is an exciting opportunity to lead a small, high-performing team responsible for delivering strategy, risk management and financial oversight across a regionally distributed organisation. As the Assistant Director Strategy, Risk and Finance, you will play a critical role in supporting executive leadership through the development, coordination, and monitoring of strategic planning, enterprise risk management, and financial frameworks.

You’ll work closely with the Director Strategy and Governance to ensure the organisation meets its legislative and administrative responsibilities, while also supporting forward planning, corporate reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the organisation’s Risk Management Framework in line with Commonwealth policy.
  • Lead the coordination of strategic planning processes, including annual work plans, strategic plans, and annual reports.
  • Oversee financial functions including budgeting, procurement, and operational financial processes.
  • Provide expert advice and reporting on organisational strategy, risk and financial performance.
  • Lead a small team, providing mentoring, coaching and professional development support.
  • Drive improvements in governance practices and business processes.
  • Support change management initiatives and office-wide coordination activities.
  • Prepare and review statutory reports, internal guidance materials, and operational documentation.
 
We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable leader who can demonstrate:
  • Extensive experience in enterprise risk management, strategy development, and financial oversight.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and lead a high-functioning team in a complex operating environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports, advice, and publications for senior audiences.
  • A proactive mindset, with a focus on innovation, continuous improvement, and strategic outcomes.
