About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Financial Policy Officer to join a Finance team at the APS6 or EL1 level, depending on skills and experience. In this role, you will contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of financial policy, frameworks, and guidance that underpin sound financial management across the Department.
This is a critical role that supports compliance with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability (PGPA) Act 2013 and associated rules and guidance, ensuring the Department’s financial practices meet whole-of-government expectations and standards.

Key Responsibilities
As a Financial Policy Officer, you will:
  • Develop, review, and maintain financial policy and procedures aligned with the PGPA Act, Department of Finance guidance, and internal controls.
  • Provide authoritative advice and guidance on financial governance, risk, and compliance matters.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to support understanding and application of financial policy across the Department.
  • Monitor changes to whole-of-government policy and accounting standards, and assess their impact.
  • Prepare clear and concise policy documents, briefing materials, and reports for senior executives.
  • Contribute to the Department’s financial integrity and assurance frameworks.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will:
  • Have strong knowledge of financial frameworks within the Australian Public Service.
  • Be able to interpret and apply complex legislation, policies, and accounting standards.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Be proactive, organised, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • For EL1 roles: show leadership in mentoring junior staff and leading policy initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, or a related field are highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in financial policy, audit, financial compliance, or similar roles in the public sector is preferred.

  • Applicants must be Australian citizens AND hold a Baseline security clearance
